A Village Held by the Forest

Set high among chestnut groves, holm oaks and cork oaks, Los Marines blends closely with the landscape of the Sierra de Aracena Natural Park. Its protected historic centre preserves whitewashed, tile-roofed mountain houses along streets shaped by the hillside. Seek out the traditional washhouses and Fuentecilla, then continue into the surrounding network of streams and paths.

What to See & Do

Lavaderos : Early 20th-century communal washhouses, part of the village's protected historic centre. Monumento a La Apañaora : A bronze statue in Plaza del Lavadero honouring the women who once gathered chestnuts by hand. Monumento al Voto : A monument on the church's side facade marking a vow made to the Virgin of Grace during an 1854 cholera epidemic. Paseo Murales de la Sierra : A promenade lined with 29 hand-painted tiles depicting the landmarks and shields of Sierra villages.

Grape Harvest Fair

The village's one major date arrives with winter, celebrating the year's grape harvest. Feria del Mosto (early December, annually) : Now in its third decade, this two-day fair at the municipal sports pavilion offers free tastings of freshly pressed mosto (grape must), an artisanal produce market, live music, children's activities, and a raffle for a barrel of local mosto.
